What is Forest School?

Forest School is a child-centred approach to learning that takes place outdoors through regular, long-term sessions. Children learn through play, exploration, and hands-on experiences in a natural environment, helping them build confidence, independence, and self-esteem.

Forest School supports the whole child – socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. It provides a safe, nurturing space where children feel able to try new things, solve problems, and learn at their own pace. Over time, this helps children develop a strong and meaningful connection with the natural world.

Risk in Forest School is carefully managed and purposeful. Children are supported to take appropriate risks, helping them develop resilience, self-belief, and adaptability. These experiences are not about danger, but about learning, growth, and confidence.

Through Forest School, children become happy, confident, and resilient learners. Most importantly, they love the experience — and their enthusiasm speaks for itself.

Forest School Recognition

We are proud to announce that our Forest School provision has been officially approved as a Forest School Association (FSA) recognised Forest School Provider.

This recognition confirms that our Forest School programme meets nationally recognised standards for good Forest School practice and is delivered in line with the six core principles of Forest School, including regular, long-term sessions that support children’s learning and development over time.

Being an FSA Recognised Provider reflects our commitment to:

  • High-quality outdoor learning
  • Children’s wellbeing, confidence, and resilience
  • Professional practice, safety, and continuous improvement

As part of this recognition, our provision is reviewed annually to ensure it continues to meet these standards and to support ongoing development.
