Our Early Years
About Our Early Years
We have two classes in our Early Years Foundation Stage:
-
Nursery (children aged 3–4 years)
-
Reception (children aged 4–5 years)
At Queen’s Park Primary School, we provide a nurturing, safe and happy environment where children learn through play, exploration and meaningful experiences. We value children’s curiosity and independence, giving them time and space to take ownership of their learning through carefully supported free-choice play.
We aim to develop kind, confident learners who build positive relationships, communicate their ideas and make connections between their learning and everyday life. Working closely with parents and carers, we support every child to feel secure and valued, creating strong foundations for future learning.
Our practitioners offer rich, playful learning experiences across all seven Areas of Learning and Development, with a strong focus on communication, wellbeing and personal growth.

A Typical Day
Each day includes a balance of child-led play and adult-guided learning. Children spend extended periods engaging in free play indoors and outdoors, alongside focused sessions such as phonics, maths, small-group learning and story time. Throughout the day, children explore, create, problem solve and build friendships, supported by caring adults who extend learning through meaningful interactions. Each week, all children have a Forest School session with Miss Wilson, our Forest School teacher.
Meet The Team
Our Nursery and Reception classes are led by a dedicated team of experienced practitioners who create warm, welcoming classrooms where children feel safe, valued and excited to learn.

Supporting Transitions
We understand that starting school is a big step. We support children and families through gentle settling-in arrangements, close communication with parents and strong links between Nursery, Reception and Year 1 to ensure every transition feels smooth and positive.
We believe strong partnerships with parents and carers are key to children’s success. Families are welcomed into school through weekly Stay and Play sessions, Guest Reader afternoons, daily conversations at drop-off and pick-up and regular updates about learning. Where possible, we invite parents on trips and host social mornings, information sessions and workshops. We encourage open communication and value parents as partners in their child’s development.
